One of our overarching goals at Beacon Light Doulas is to help reconnect loved ones to the natural process of dying, death, after care for the whole family, and the fearless involvement with entire process of being birthed out of this life.
Over the last century, we have been taught that death is something to be afraid of, a medical crisis that we must try to avoid, not to be discussed openly or planned for except with dread or deep heartache. For most of us, Death almost always brings great sadness and grief, even with extreme age or when death is unavoidable like with terminal illness or advanced stages of dementia.
Death is such a profound and sacred stage of life and can be an extraordinary tool to help families and communities come together in memory of and healing with those they have lost.
It is our mission to educate and compassionately support families and friends as they move through the natural stages of anticipating, honoring and lovingly letting go of their most precious ones.
Erica, Elizabeth and Mary are blessed to have been called to do this work, as it is the second most significant event in all of our lives. We hope to demystify the processes of death and dying, take the fear out of supporting those going through it and help bring conversations about our own concerns and wishes related to death out of the shadowy realm of taboo, and back into the fold of our everyday lives.
Elizabeth, a San Francisco native, has spent over 15 years as a Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery, helping families welcome new life.
In 2018, she expanded her skills to become an end-of-life doula, focusing on the Chinese-American community.
Elizabeth is passionate about bridging cultural gaps and empowering families through open conversations about death.
Co-founder of "Death Over Dim Sum" and a hospice volunteer, she brings compassion and understanding to life's final transition.
Erica, a San Francisco native, brings over two decades of experience as a certified massage therapist, birth doula, midwifery assistant, and certified end-of-life doula since 2018.
Erica's compassionate touch and healing presence provide comfort and peace, ensuring dignity in final moments.
Skilled in facilitating open, heartfelt conversations, she also creates legacy art, transforming personal treasures into beautiful keepsakes.
Mary, a Bay Area native, brings over 30 years of experience working with older adults, managing senior centers and assisted living.
As a late-life transition specialist, grief coach, and certified end-of-life doula, she provides compassionate support to individuals and families throughout the aging process.
Her extensive background includes healthcare advocacy and mediating complex family dynamics.
Mary’s deep empathy and insights, honed through personal and professional experiences, make her a trusted guide for navigating life’s most challenging transitions.
"The first time I ever spoke with Mary I knew I was in the right place at the right time. I was going through a crossroads in my life grieving the loss of a close family member, raising a toddler, and had spent a decade plus trying to find a job that I was meant to pursue. Just a one hour conversation with Mary changed my life forever.
I am now one year into my dream career, well on my way healing from my loss and taking motherhood mindfully and gratefully. Through our first conversation I realized that the universe was telling me to follow this path my whole life and I was blind to it the whole time. I had it all inside me the whole time but it wasn’t until I spoke with Mary that the stars aligned and I started living the life I was always intended to.
She listens, she cares, she helps you see what you were always intended to see. She is my mentor, my spirit guide and a living guardian angel. I can’t say enough good about her. I am so glad our paths have crossed and we will be connected for life."
